One of the things I’ve missed about the past six months is Foundations on Sunday morning. The typical format for our adult Foundations classes has been between twenty-five and thirty minutes of instruction, with the rest of that time devoted to class discussion. Those discussions are my favorite part of Foundations because we get to learn from each other. You ask wonderful questions. You make insightful connections to the Scriptures that didn’t occur to me. You share your experiences to help illuminate the truth. We’re better able to learn together than we are apart.
So, how do we move that discussion to the online space until we’re able to gather as a class again? We’re going to give it a shot on October 13 from 7:00-8:00 PM.
A few years ago, Pastor Tim Keller and Bryan Stevenson hosted a forum at Redeemer Presbyterian Church where they discussed what the Bible says (and doesn’t say) about justice and how that works itself out in the world. I’d love to discuss these ideas with you for an hour on Zoom.
Interested? Here’s what you should do next:
1. Let me know – Send me an email (link to my email) so I can add you to the list. Having a headcount will also help us plan logistics for the discussion group. I know some of our high schoolers are really interested in this topic, so they’re welcome to join in as well.
2. Watch the video – We want to devote our hour together to questions and discussion so, unlike a normal Foundations class, this one has homework. Please watch the video (linked above) in advance and take some notes if it helps you. It’ll take you about an hour.
3. Join the discussion – I’ll send out the link to the Zoom meeting on the afternoon of October 13. Just click the link and we’ll go from there. You may be more interested in listening than talking – and that’s okay. Join us anyway!
The format here’s a little different than what you’re used to, but the goal is still the same. Let’s gather together and sharpen one another so that, through our relationships, we might grow as disciples of Jesus. If this goes well, we’ll do some other discussion groups around different topics.
I hope you’ll join the discussion!
