Word of the Week: King
This weekend is Martin Luther King, Jr. Weekend. That means different things to different people, but here at Grace it means something specific. It means it’s time for our Martin Luther King, Jr. Service!
Haven’t heard of it? Here’s what we do. Every MLK Weekend, the Greene County Ministerial Association holds this service and we get the privilege of hosting it. Different churches from around the area come together and play music. This year Dr. Alvin Edwards is going to come and preach.
This service serves two major goals:
First, it’s an expression of unity. You know this if you’ve ever attended the service. The music styles and expressions vary, but the message is the same. Our hope is in Jesus. There is something powerful about celebrating Christ with other Christians outside of our congregation. That’s what heaven’s going to be like, after all!
Second, this is a chance to serve our community. Every year the GCMA raises money to provide college scholarships to students in need. This service is one of three concerts throughout the year that help us fund that goal. This service is an opportunity for us to invest in the next generation.
I’m looking forward to it – and I hope you are too!
