Where We’ve Been
Last December we announced to the congregation that our Senior Pastor, Don Ward, sensed a call to serve pastors in Malawi through Equipping Leaders International. Pastor Don continued to serve here as Senior Pastor through January. And then in February, he transitioned from being one of our pastors to being one of our supported missionaries. As a cherry on top, he and his wife Caron continue to worship with us as part of our family.
In the months that followed this change, we put together a search committee. They’ve been working diligently through the summer to hash out a good packet to give prospective candidates. After all, you can’t know you’re getting good answers unless you know you’re asking the right questions.
On Sunday, Aaron Andreson brought us an update on that search process. Over the past few months, the committee has been doing a lot of behind the scenes work. They’ve been busy developing the process by which they will interview and select candidates, building the trust necessary to have important post-interview conversations, and working on a packet to release for interested applicants.
Where We’re Going
With all of that work as a foundation, it is time for the next stage of the search process. That packet is now posted here and will be posted other places in the coming days. The committee is now accepting applications and will be conducting interviews as submissions come in.
What You Can Do
If you’re not on the search committee, it might not feel like you have much to contribute – but you do! Prayer isn’t trite; it’s powerful. Would you pray for our pastor search?
Pray for the process – Unless God shows up in this, it’s all a waste of time. We can discuss best practices. We can compose documents. The process only works in submission to the Spirit. Pray that the Lord will use and direct this process for his good purposes.
Pray for the committee – This is hard and time-consuming work. Pray that the Holy Spirit will give them wisdom and a spirit of unity.
Pray for the candidates – God knows who our next pastor is. He’s already prepared him for this ministry. Pray that the candidates and committee alike will have eyes to see and ears to hear.
