I See the Birds
Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air; they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? - Matthew 6:25-26
Saints, we live in anxious times. We know the Scriptures tell us not to worry and to cast our cares on God knowing that He cares for us (1 Peter 5:7). These verses are not meant to make us feel guilty but are evidence of the sympathy our Savior has for us. And yet anxiety about family, health, job, nation, and world continue to press in. In recent days, I have found the lyrics from a Jon Guerra song, based on Matthew 6, to be a comforting reminder of God’s care in the midst of my worry.
"Do not be anxious about your life"
I heard you say to me
You dress the lilies
You leave the weeds
The sower of the seed
Am I in charge of my own mind
Or is it in charge of me?
I see the birds up in the air
I know you feed them
I know you care
So won’t you teach me
How I mean more to you than them
In times of trouble
Be my help again
You’ve held me sturdy
You’ve led me on
Through years of joy and grief
So don’t you leave me
All on my own
You know me, Lord
I’m weak
I see thе birds up in the air
I know you feed them
I know you care
So won’t you tеach me
How I mean more to you than them
In times of trouble
Be my help again
Don’t you worry, child
Don’t you worry, child
He won’t leave you by yourself
In times of trouble, he’s your help
I'm letting go of my own life
I'm letting go again
I see the birds up in the air
I know you feed them
I know you care
So won’t you teach me
How I mean more to you than them
In times of trouble
Be my help again
Be ever present
Lord, won’t you be my closest friend
In times of trouble
Be my help again
