In a couple of weeks, Adam and I will join over 2,000 of our closest friends in Louisville, KY for the PCA’s 53rd General Assembly. That 2,000 number actually represents the number of commissioners coming from around the United States and the world to consider matters related to our denomination. We will gather for times of worship. We will enjoy fellowship over meals. We will learn in seminars. We will hear about God’s work through the various exhibitors who attend.
The majority of the time will be spent in deliberations and voting on issues. We will:
- Receive greetings and updates from leaders in other denominations
- Consider recommendations regarding the work of our 87 presbyteries to ensure that work has been conducted in accordance with our Book of Church Order
- Hear reports from our committees and agencies, such as RUF, and vote on recommendations that they bring to help facilitate their particular labors
- Deliberate two reports from two ad interim committees (study committees), one on Christian nationalism and the other to revise the directory of worship
- Handle over 90 overtures coming from individuals, Sessions, and Presbyteries. Each of these is requesting the Assembly to take some action. These requests range from amending the Book of Church Order to multiplying presbyteries to making statements or declarations to forming study committees to consider particular topics such as AI
As you can see, we have a lot to do this year, and we have about two and a half days to get it done. So, I ask you to pray. Pray for:
- Unity and Humility
- Wisdom and Discernment
- Renewal and Worship
- Missionaries and Outreach
And pray for all the practicalities of travel, hotels, and details that go along with putting on a meeting of this size.
